Recent Statistics for District

  • 4% decrease in violent crimes

  • 33% increase in property crime (Includes shop-lifting) DPD is working with

  • 66%/ 2 additional incidents of aggravated assault.

Recommend reaching out to the non-violent crime line ( OOO )

Street Racing

  • When you see street racing:

1) 911 for in-progress reckless driving

2) 720-913-2000 for gathering

3) ReportStreetRacing.com [Regional task force]

  • This isn’t a response mechanism, but they do use this to identify patterns. They will not follow up with people who report, but they do collect and utilize these reports for enforcement activities.

  • DPD are working with shopping center property owners (Sprouts, King Soopers) to sign onto trespass agreements.

    • This allows DPD to run plates, etc. The property management of the King Soopers shopping center.

Department Updates

  • 9 officers in our district graduated from field training.

  • We added an additional 15 officers enter field training, 24 by mid july

  • They have moved to a percentage-based officer placement in 2024, meaning we have more officers.

  • Average time for response is down from 30-40 minutes to 15 to 20 minutes. That will continue to get better through July.

  • We have a dedicated traffic officer now in District 3. On March 23rd we’re adding a second one.

  • The city has goals every year. DPD has 5 goals this year. One goal is fixing property crime in 314.

Community Questions & Comments

What about motorcycles?

  • Report through the same street racing mechanisms. They know they will run. They follow safely and smartly.

What can we do to get King Soopers property owners on-board?

  • Jon Silva has been working with the King Soopers management. Christy is going to provide Arianna with some information that she can use to reach out to the property managers.

What are the impacted streets?

  • Quebec, Hampden, Holly, Leetsdale

What is being done about E-Bikes on the highline canal?

  • Call the park rangers (311 during business hours. Their voicemail is monitored 24/7.

  • 311 can also provide an email and they have 72 hours to respond. Similar issue on sidewalks. Technically these should be ridden on the road closest to the curb-line.

  • DPD works closely with schools on education activities that may help.

  • If you see issues, report through the non-emergency number.

Thank you for stationing an officer at Dahlia and Dartmouth and ticketing folks not stopping at the stop-sign. Speeding between Wellshire and Hampden is still a big issue.

  • Jacob is the dedicated officer for this area. He typically hits the area within 3-4 days. Manny will normally follow through with the citizen who made the complaint.

  • The commander also really appreciates feedback on when officers are present etc.

  • They respond to complaints and to compliments.

What time of day is property crime the biggest issue?

  • Christy will send the transparency dashboard. It shows what days and times are worse for some types of crime.

    Neighborhood Watch

    • Back in 2018, there was an issue with a man attacking women on the highline canal. The community built a robust neighborhood watch.

    • Christy has an informational email list for neighborhood watch. It includes crime bulletins, how to respond, sexually violent predator notice, etc.

    • There is a one-time meeting that takes about an hour. They have neighbors that cover a block or half a block and they are the Point-Of-Contact for the area. They need folks to volunteer so neighbors can help the community know what to do.

    • “A successful police department prevents crime before it happens.”

    • KAL will follow-up with Christy where there are gaps in the neighborhood watch. These folks can be Points-of-Contact and they figure out how they want to communicate with their neighborhood.

  1. If you do contact 911, it is really helpful to allow for caller contact so that they can have a better chance of hearing back. You can be contacted by phone vs having someone come door to door.

    1. Many crimes require allowing an officer contact the victim to allow for someone to respond.

  2. Sexually violent predators, is that also on the Colorado Bureau of Investigations?

    1. There is an important distinction 1) Sexually violent predator 2) Sex offender

    2. Sexually violent predators are these folks who have been reviewed as more likely to re-offend. Orange dot is a sex offender. Red dot is the sexually violent predator. The address, car, picture, and other general occurrence reports in the area. Denver PD YouTube they include the SVP videos explaining which are relevant to your neighborhood.

  3. Manny can also providing information on a large gathering of officers. There may be an active investigation that limits what information he can share, but can at a minimum provide an update on the reason for the call and that it is under investigation. They do post major incidents on X.

Denver Water:

What: Denver Water crews recently started a water main replacement project in the University Hills neighborhood. Crews are replacing over 2,500 linear feet of aging water mains underneath the road. During this project, we also may encounter water services lines that contain lead and are owned by the property owner. If that occurs, Denver Water will coordinate directly with the property owner or tenant to replace the lead service line with a copper service line at no direct cost to the property owner or resident. The water we provide to homes and businesses is lead-free, but lead can get into the water as it moves through lead-containing household fixtures, plumbing and water service lines — the pipe that brings water into the home from the main in the street — owned by the property owner.

When: Work started early 2026 and is expected to wrap up in mid to late March.

Weather conditions, material shortages and crew availability may extend the completion of work. Emergency work may also take priority. Working hours are typically Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Some night or weekend work may be required.

Where:

  • South Bellaire Street between East Eastman and East Girard avenues.

  • South Clermont Street between East Eastman and East Girard avenues.

Project communications: Denver Water mailed the attached notification to residents in the neighborhood, with additional communications sent out for each phase. Door hangers will be delivered to impacted properties before the start of construction and before any planned water outages. In addition, Denver Water will provide periodic updates throughout the project via the social media platform Nextdoor. If neighbors have questions about the project, they should contact Denver Water Customer Care at 303-893-2444.

Customers should visit denverwater.org for self-service options and project information.

Project Map: An interactive project map can be found at denverwater.org/Pipes.

Holly Street Shopping Center Upgrades

Just last week we signed leases with www.recessbeergarden.com and https://copperdoorcoffee.com/. Copper Door will also be serving ice cream. https://www.thelocalbutcherdenver.com/, located next to Kickin it Kids Gym is under construction and should be open in April. They will be serving a limited supply of grocery items as well. We’re also in the finalizing a lease with an EV Charging Station company. They plan to install 10 Level 3 Fast Chargers on site. For a full list of tenants, please visit the directory.

We have two remaining suites, each 1,100 SF and are in preliminary talks with a few interested businesses.

Attached is an image of the courtyard plans. This courtyard will be permitted to allow for shared use of all tenants, including restaurants and allow for patrons to consume alcohol in the courtyard. We’ll also be installing a big turf area with some fun things for kids to play on.

We are working through our two different permits with the city, the Site Development Plan and the construction permits for the repositioning of the old Family Dollar suite, into four different suites. We hope to have the both approved within the next few weeks. Our hope/goal is that all new tenants will be moved in and the courtyard work complete by late summer.

For reference, this development group is the same group behind the successful www.oneidapark.com project in Park Hill.

City Council

Councilwoman Romero Campbell would like to invite you and your neighbors to a District 4 Community Open House on March 18, at Thomas Jefferson High School, from 5:30-6:30pm. We will have about 12 city agencies there tabling to talk with residents and help answer any of their questions. The doors will open at 5pm, and snacks will be provided.

April 18 Arbor Day: Is Anyone Interested In Representing Us?

Dear Washington Park West, Platt Park, University Hills, Country Club, Cory Merrill, and Bonnie Brae neighbors:

Washington Park East Neighborhood Association (WPENA) and Friends and Neighbors of Washington Park (FANS) invites you to participate in an Earth and Arbor Day celebration, Saturday April 18 at the Washington Park Boathouse.

We've set aside a table for neighboring RNOs to be onsite to greet your current and future neighbors.

It's shaping up to be a great event.  We'll have 25 or so exhibitors - half of them for profit (Xcel Energy, solar, energy efficiency, electrification contractors, etc.) and half nonprofit (Denver Climate Action, Sustainability, and Resilience Office, Pollinator Corridor, Front Range Wild Ones, etc.)  There will be two food trucks and kids' activities.

If your RNO would like to participate, please respond to me by March 29 with the name and contact information of the individual(s) who will represent your neighborhood.  It's fine to split the 5-hour shift between people, but due to space limitations, we'd ask that each RNO have only one rep at the table at a time
