TRex Meeting Highlights
We had a very nice meeting and exceptional attendance (over 100)
at our "Inaugural" UHNA meeting last week - at U-Hills Lutheran Church.
We had approximately 120 people attend this function.
It was great to learn more about the TRex project with Hunter, the
TRex Project specialst. Her PowerPoint Presentation was very informative, and
brought up even more questions about the future challenges of traffic
control through our neighborhoods. We ecourage you to contact local
police and let them know about speeding thru your "commonly not well
travelled" streets.
Almost all "Sound Walls" will be up this year.
Parking is limited at the Yale Station
FREE Shuttles from UHills Mall may be an option

Personal thought:
I wonder if we should have a conversation with the Total Station
at Yale and I-25 asking them to re-locate to the old Sinclair east
of I-25 on Yale. This would be a "prime" location for an additional
4 level parking Facility.
Watch for up and coming UHNA sponsored meetings in the future to
include safety with the Local Fire and Police Departments - in reference to follow
up comments raised at this meeting.
Peggy Lehmann Joins Us
We were fortunate to be blessed with our local District 4 City Councilwoman, Peggy Lehmann.
She shared her views of positive happening changes in our neighborhood, as
well as enlightening us with her up and coming meeting with the Mayor.
She has invited us to come by and visit her at her office located just east of
Monaco on Hampden at 6740 E. Hampden Ave., Suite 302.
Her office hours are 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
She suggests that you call first, 303-504-5781, to be sure that they are there.
Her staff includes two well qualified aides, Diane Young and Beth Gravell.
Diane is a 25 year resident of Southmoor Park and served as the Executive
Director of the Colorado League of Women Voters for several years. Bethany is
also a resident of Southeast Denver.
Peggy shared a new book with one of our neighbors, asking her to read the book,
Peace Like a River, by Leif Enger,
and pass it on to another neighbor. This book has recently been recognized and a suggested read
by our own Mayor Hickenlooper.

Bradley's focus for the 2005-2006 school year is to increase the achievement levels
of students by offering the new IB (International Baccalaureate Program).
Another goal is to "beautify" the 6 acre desert into a 6 acre lot of greenery
that our residents will find inviting. Please send your email supporting this
program to: DPS School Board. Please
share your thoughts and interests of improvement and what it means to you.

We NEED YOU!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
We had a brief discussion of Volunteers for "agendas" needing to be addressed.
We also had a wonderful response, as many of you signed up for a variety of
committees. Thank you for your interest. The neighbors will be contacted by
our current "Steering" committee and notified of our next meeting.

IPS BEETLES.....are among us...
Pat Scott brought up the problem with the IPS BEETLE. The IPS Beetle is killing the
BLUE SPRUCE trees in our area. Spruce trees are especially vulnerable during drought
years.
If the tree becomes stressed due to the lack of water or even construction
wounds to the root system, the trees become susceptible to IPS Beetles.
Once a tree is infested with IPS Beetles, there is no saving the tree.
The Beetles are like a terminal illness for Spruce trees.
There are a couple of treatments that can help your Spruce trees from
becoming infested. Always be sure the trees receive plenty of water, especially
in the winter months. Deep Root Watering is the best treatment, and preventive
spraying in the spring is also highly recommended. Get you trees sprayed to protect them.
Spraying costs $120-$150. Tree removal is $1,000+, and it reduces your property value!
